Book Release: Courting Kids Inside An Experimental Youth Court with Professor Barrett
Start Date: 12/6/2012
End Date: 12/6/2012

Event Description:
COURTING KIDS
INSIDE AN EXPERIMENTAL YOUTH COURT

A Book Release Event
with
Carla J. Barrett
Assistant Professor, Sociology

December 6
6:00 PM
Room 630, Haaren Hall
** Reception to Follow

Courting Kids takes us behind the scenes of a unique judicial experiment called the Manhattan Youth Part, a specialized criminal court set aside for youth prosecuted as adults in New York City. Focusing on the lives of those coming through and working in the court room, Barrett's ethnography is a study of a microcosm that reflects the costs, challenges, and consequences the "tough on crime" age has had, especially for male youth of color.

Sponsored by NYU Press &
John Jay Sociology Department
