PIPER KERMAN is the author of the highly acclaimed memoir Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, which was adapted into an original television series for Netflix. She is a frequent invited speaker to students of law, criminology, gender and women's studies, sociology, and creative writing, and also to groups that include the American Correctional Association's Disproportionate Minority Confinement Task Force, federal probation officers, public defenders, justice reform advocates and volunteers, book clubs, and formerly and currently incarcerated people.

ERROL LOUIS is NY1's political anchor and host of the station's "Inside City Hall" the city's premiere news program covering New York politics and government. He regularly interviews top newsmakers and, in 2012, covered and commented on the Republican and Democratic national conventions and co-moderated a live statewide debate for the U.S. Senate. Prior to joining NY1, he was a columnist and editorial board member of the New York Daily News and host of The Morning Show on AM1600 WWRL.

All proceeds benefit the John Jay College Center on Media, Crime & Justice, the nation's only university-based, non-partisan forum for discussion, networking and information-sharing between the media and the criminal justice community in the U.S. and abroad.
The Center receives generous project funding from the Ford Foundation, Tow Foundation, Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, and Jacob & Valeria Langeloth Foundation. Dinner supports core operating costs.
