Spring Symposia: Borders, Law Enforcement and the Underworld of Globalization
Start Date: 5/9/2013Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 5/9/2013End Time: 7:00 PM

Event Description:
Join us for a discussion with Alan Bersin, Assistant Secretary on International Affairs, Department of Homeland Security and Former Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This lecture will examine the radically changing nature of borders, the forces driving such change, and the impact on traditional law enforcement and regulatory regimes governing cross-border trade and travel. Assistant Secretary Bersin will argue that borders in the contemporary era must be viewed as channeling the global flow of goods and people for illicit as well as lawful purposes and that this has given rise to a new species of transnational criminal organization that thrives in the seams between nations. Bersin will explore the dramatic implications this development holds for domestic and international law enforcement.
