Vrettos has taught sociology, criminology and criminal justice at John Jay College for the past twenty years. He also taught at Yeshiva University for ten years establishing their criminal justice and criminology programs. He co-authored the critically acclaimed text The Elementary Forms of Statistical Reason and has written numerous articles on crime and criminal justice in professional and popular journals.
