Alumna and Faculty Member Chelsea Binns Publishes
Landmark Book on Fraud Hotlines
Chelsea
Binns, assistant professor in the Department of Security, Fire and
Emergency Management, has written the first book on fraud hotlines
ever published.
Binns, who graduated from John Jay with both her MA and PhD in
Criminal Justice, is a licensed private investigator and certified
fraud examiner who has extensive experience in the public and private
sector. She has worked in an investigative capacity at the New York
City Department of Investigation, the New York State Office of the
Attorney General, Morgan Stanley, and later at Citibank as the senior
vice president in fraud surveillance. Read more

Professor Leigh Graham
Shares Lessons From Research
on Disaster Recovery
Five
years after Hurricane Sandy, Professor Leigh Graham has been featured
on PBS Newshour as well as CUNY TV to discuss the successes and
challenges of recovery efforts in New York City. Last year, Graham
co-published a report comparing the experiences of the Lower East
Side and the Rockaways after Sandy, two NYC areas significantly
impacted by the storm. Read more

At Homecoming, John Jay Celebrates the End of a
Historic Year
On
November 28, John Jay's Homecoming drew hundreds of John Jay
students, alumni, faculty, staff, and fans to celebrate the end of an
incredibly successful year for the Bloodhounds.
Homecoming
has quickly become known on campus as one of the most fun athletic
events of the year and excited fans gathered for pre-game festivities
in the auxiliary gym before the first event of the evening, the

Bill Moyers Named the 2018
Justice Media Trailblazer by John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Several
awards for excellence were conferred on John Jay doctoral program
alumni and students at this year's ASC Conference in Philadelphia.
Conference attendees from within and outside New York as well as
local alumni gathered during the ASC Reception to reconnect with each
other, faculty and the College. This year's honorees included, among
others, (l-r) alumna Brittany Hayes, PhD'13, Assistant Professor of
Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University for Faculty
Research, and doctoral students/co-authors Victor St. John (third
year) and Kwan-Lamar Blount-Hill (fourth year) recognized for Best

John Jay Students Participate in
MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber" Thanksgiving
Special
This
November, Ari Melber, legal analyst and host of MSNBC's show
"The Beat with Ari Melber," invited John Jay students from
the College's Pre-Law Institute to participate in a special
Thanksgiving edition. The show, which aired on November 24, focused
on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into
potential collusion between the Trump Campaign and Russia. Read more

At Planking Ceremony, John Jay
College is Recognized as a Member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
Program
On
November 28, the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Auxiliary
University Detachment held its first planking ceremony in which
inductees were officially recognized as members of the U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliary (USCG) program. Read more

On
December 14, John Jay hosted its annual Children's Holiday Party! The
event, which first started over thirty years ago and is hosted in the
4th floor gymnasium, was open to families from neighborhood community
centers and other non-profit organizations across the city. Over six
hundred people attended to celebrate the holidays with games,
face-painting, dancing, and of course, gifts from Santa Claus. View all the photos here

Taking
a break from Winter Concert rehearsals, several members of the
John Jay Singers and Director Gregory Sheppard welcomed the
College's new portable grand piano, purchased with
proceeds from John Jay & The Arts concerts, co-sponsored by
Dr. Bettina Murray and alumnus Peter Mancuso.

anniversary of co-founding his own firm with three other partners on
11/30/17, after nearly 10 years at a private law firm. Rubin
Sheeley Paterniti Gonzalez Kaufman LLP (rubinsheeley.com) is a
full-service firm headquartered in midtown Manhattan with 20
attorneys and support staff across several offices.
Joseph
Kilmer (BA'80) retired on 10/31/15
after 35+ years in police work; 4 with the Ocean City, Maryland
Police Department, and 31+ as a Special Agent with DEA, with
assignments throughout South Florida and a 3 year tour in Australia
2007 to 2010.
Cory
A. Jones, a H.S. Guidance Counselor , has
written his first book. "Followed: Who's Following
You" describes what it's like to be a kid using the
Internet, specifically on social media. It's a compelling story of a
group of typical, modern-day teens navigating their way through
social channels and personal emotions.
Alden
Foster (BA '12) Alumna and NYPD Chief
Joanne Jaffe tweeted that
Alumnus/Deputy Director Alden Foster recently received recognition
during the NYPD #MyBronxStory
event for mentoring and supporting the young people of St
Raymond High School for Boys.
Juan
C. Checo, (BA '14) is working for New
York City Health + Hospitals as Director of Security - NYC Hospital
Police at the Kings County Hospital Center. In this role he oversees
a law enforcement department of over 100 Peace Officers.
David
Mendelsohn (MA, '93) retired as a professor
of Criminal Justice and has since taken up writing novels. His newest
novel "A White Mouse in the White House" will be printed in
January 2018 and is a charming children's story about the
values of honesty and family.
