Re: Faculty and Staff Email System Migration
With the recent successes and significant stabilization of portions of our technological infrastructure, we have reached a point where the opportunity to upgrade the College’s email system is now at hand.
Back in November 2006, the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) conducted a review of the two major email platforms available - IBM Domino and Microsoft Exchange. During an evaluation process, representatives from IBM and Microsoft proposed their solutions to the Technology Advisory Committee (TAC). Both solutions were well received by the committee. However, in the end Microsoft Exchange emerged as the favored system.
Microsoft Exchange includes a single calendaring and messaging platform, full integration with wireless handheld devices and the potential to implement numerous new technologies that will foster collaborative and shared working opportunities and improve communications.
The migration of faculty and staff is scheduled to start on this week. In the coming weeks your department will be contacted to formalize the migration schedule and to prepare for this important step toward a new more robust and streamlined electronic communication system.
