Current System Status

BlackBoard Status:
Blackboard v8

CIS will be bringing up the new 8.0 release of Blackboard in Production via the CUNY portal on Thursday morning, August 14th. The new Blackboard release features a single environment for all students and instructors, but has separate domains for each school, so that each school and student will have a somewhat customized local view of their courses and options.
The Fall release will have a limited number of participants.

All Students and Instructors will see a new text section on the Portal Home Page instructing them to click on the appropriate link according to the school they are attending. Online Baccalaureate and Graduate Center students are instructed to click on the appropriate link (one for each
school) which will log them in to the 8.0 release.

Likewise there are several courses at Hunter, LaGuardia and Lehman that are designated as "Early Adopter Rollout Blackboard courses". There is a link for these students as well, which will also log them into Blackboard 8.0.

Finally, at the bottom of the new text section, there is a link for "current version of Blackboard". This is the link that is to be used by the vast majority of students and instructors for the Fall Term. If in doubt, direct them to this link. This link will take them to their current (backdoor) login page which allows them to select which virtual instance (v.i.) they will be automatically logged into. From this point, everything should appear the same as always for the current 6.3 release.

Students logging into Blackboard via the Portal should never see the Blackboard login screen. They should all be logged in under the covers once they have a successful Portal login and have clicked one of the Blackboard links.

There will be a FAQ section on the Help tab in the new Blackboard 8.0 release that should answer other key questions for users.

CUNY Status:
System Maintenance

The Aleph system will be periodically unavailable between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. for the next week as the technical team works to finalize the upgrade to version 18.

Other Status:
eSIMS Access Exclusively through the CIS Portal

During the Spring 2008 semester the CUNY Community was advised that signon to eSIMS was going to be enabled exclusively through the CIS Portal in the Summer of 2008. This requires all eligible students to register with the Portal to obtain a user-id and password. All students have an LDAP account created through the legacy student system nightly load once they are entered into each college's system. Only the student can signon to the Portal to authenticate their information against the LDAP information to obtain a user-id and password.

On July 15, 2008 students will no longer be able to access eSIMS directly from esims.cuny.edu with their social security number and SIMS pin number.

Please note that student must have their Portal profile set to the Primary College that they want to register for in order for them to access the correct eSIMS process. Their Primary CUNY Role must also be set to STUDENT.
This is really only a concern for those students that have multiple college affiliations or multiple roles.
