Members of the John Jay community can now
use their personal laptop computers to access the Internet through
special wireless connections that are now available:
BMW
North Hall
Westport
Haaren Hall
Additional areas of the campus will be added to the wireless network
as this project continues.
Your laptop must contain a wireless adapter that is WiFi (802.11b
compatible ) and you must have a John Jay email account.
Faculty or staff members can obtain a John Jay email account through
the DoIT helpdesk at x8200. All registered and paid Students are
issued an email account.
If you are using Mac OS X, your AirPort card should readily discover
the wireless networks broadcast near you. Below are instructions
for ensuring that your Apple AirPort card will connect to the John
Jay College wireless network.
- From the Apple Menu. Select Location, then Networking.
- Set "Show:" to AirPort.
- Set "Configure" to use DHCP Server.
- Select the AirPort tab and make sure JOHN JAY COLLEGE appears
in the SSID or Network field. This sets the "preferred" network
when one connects via AirPort.
- Verify that the "show airport status in menu bar" option
is selected.
- Select "Apply Now" to apply these settings for your AirPort
card.
All other information will be served by the DHCP server. Once you've
checked your AirPort configuration (and provided you have a decent
wireless signal), you should be able to connect to John Jay College
wireless network.
Click Start -> Hover until you get to “Connect To”:

Click “Connect To”:

Choose “John Jay College” under Wireless Network Connection.

Click on “save this network" :

Click “Close” and then open a web browser, where you will be redirect temporarily for
authentication purposes.
Enter your John Jay username and password, this username & password is the same your email
password. You are on John Jay Wireless.

Click Start -> hover the start menu until


Click on connect:

Click on “Connect Anyway”
After being connected, open a web browser so that you may be authenticated and allow on John
Jay College’s wireless network.
