May 30, 2018 was a day filled with excitement and pride for our John Jay graduates, faculty, family and friends. With more than 3,700 students graduating—the largest graduating class in the College's history—Arthur Ashe Stadium was abuzz with anticipation. Before the ceremony started, President Karol V. Mason walked through the stadium halls greeting students, praising their hard work and admiring their decorated mortarboards. When she addressed her first graduating class as John Jay's President, she revved up the crowd with her signature enthusiasm and even a rap from Hamilton. Student council President Fatime Uruci told her fellow classmates why John Jay would always be home for her. And, honorary degree recipients Rashida Manjoo and Ronald V. Clarke both urged the graduates to continue fighting injustice and inequality. There were proud waves to parents, tears of joy and hugs amongst friends, all making graduation day a special one for the class of 2018.
