A practical survey of counseling approaches and techniques designed to provide skills in the academic counseling of fellow students. Major emphasis is on examining assumptions about helping, building basic observational and communication skills, facilitating and examining various helping techniques. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and practice these skills in a variety of role-playing situations, lectures, experiential exercises, group discussion, and contact with resource persons. (Offered spring semesters.) |
