US News & World Report Ranks John Jay in Top 20% of Nation’s MPA Programs - John Jay Recognized as No. 1 CUNY MPA Program

New York, NY, May 5, 2008 – John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s MPA Program was again ranked in the top 20% of the nation’s MPA Programs by US News & World Report in its 2008 “Best Graduate Schools” survey. Only three public policy programs in New York City – NYU, Columbia and John Jay - were among the top 20% nationwide.  Furthermore, the ranking places John Jay’s program ahead of Baruch, the New School and Pace University.

“This ranking is a tremendous honor and underscores the talent and commitment of the John Jay faculty.  The increasing number of graduate students who choose to come to John Jay confirms the quality of the educational experience here, which we all work hard to instill each day,” said President Jeremy Travis.

“This is a great honor for the public administration faculty and John Jay.  It is gratifying to see that our faculty’s scholarship and the College’s academic capabilities are recognized,” said Dr. Marilyn Rubin, Director of the MPA Program at John Jay.

John Jay College’s Master of Public Administration has two tracks – a traditional MPA track and the Inspector General track which focuses on inspection and oversight.  This double track sets John Jay’s program apart from those of other institutions. With more than 500 students, John Jay’s MPA program is one of the largest in the country. Most of those enrolled want to enter public service; many are pursuing careers in criminal justice from the profession’s administrative side.

US News & World Report “Best Graduate Schools” rankings spotlight the country’s academically excellent graduate programs.  The public affairs program rankings are based solely on the responses of deans, directors and department chairs representing master’s of public affairs and administration programs, two per school.
