New York, NY – September 10, 2008 –  Governor David Paterson today announced the appointment of Jeremy Travis, President of John Jay College of Criminal Justice as Chair of the Juvenile Justice Task Force. 

In accepting the appointment, President Travis said, “It is indeed an honor to serve as chair of the New York State Juvenile Justice Task Force. I know that Governor Paterson is committed to insuring the safety of our state’s families and children and I share with him this commitment. I am confident that this task force will enable us to develop a more comprehensive and less punitive approach to the placement of juveniles involved in the juvenile justice system.”

Over the course of the next year, this Task Force is charged with developing strategies to transform the state’s juvenile justice system.
