Academic and Service Awards Presented to 2011 John Jay Graduates

New York, NY, June 7, 2011 – Outstanding graduating seniors were honored with academic and service awards during a ceremony on John Jay College of Criminal Justice on June 1st.

The following are a list of graduation awards recipients:

Graduating Scholars Awards

Valedictorian

Konrad Ornatowski, Summa Cum Laude in Forensic Science
Presented to the member of the graduating class with the highest grade point average.

Salutatorian

David M. Marshall, IV. Summa Cum Laude in Culture and Deviance Studies
Presented to the member of the graduating class with the second highest grade point average.


Graduate Service Award

Graduate Student Service Award

Clement James, Jr., Master of Public Administration
This award is given to a graduate student who has made a significant contribution to the college community.


Undergraduate Awards

Uniformed Fire Officers Association Award

Leonard Roe, Summa Cum Laude in Fire and Emergency Services
Established by the Uniformed Officers Association, this award is presented by the association to a New York City Fire Department officer graduating with a distinguished academic record.

Police Foundation Award

Winston Willabus, Master of Public Administration
Established by the New York City Police Foundation, this award is presented to a police officer who is a graduating with the highest cumulative GPA.

Anne Schreiber Memorial Award

Berta Sandu, Summa Cum Laude in Forensic Psychology
Established by Associate Registrar emerita Jennie Gisses in memory of her sister, this award is presented to a graduating senior who has made marked progress in English as a second language.

Lawrence J. Kaplan Humanities Award

Robert Cernat, Summa Cum Laude in Humanities and Justice
Establish by Professor Emeritus of Economics Lawrence J. Kaplan, this award is presented to a graduating senior who has shown excellence in the humanities

Christopher William Memorial Scholarship Award

Rochel Horowitz, Summa Cum Laude in Forensic Psychology
Established in the memory of Christopher Williams, a dedicated College Admissions Counselor by his wife, Sara Scaldafferry, this award is presented to a graduating senior with the highest GPA, who is registered with the Office of Student with Disabilities.

This award is given to five graduating seniors who have made significant contributions of service to the College.

Howard Mann Humanitarian Award

Norhan Basuni, Cum Laude in CUNY BA
Established in memory of Dr. Howard Mann, scholar, counselor, educator, humanitarian, associate professor and assistant dean of students (1971-79), this award is presented to a graduating senior who unselfishly and voluntarily has worked for the welfare of others.

The Scholarship and Service Award

Tyler Garvey, Magna Cum Laude in Humanities and Justice
This award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated scholarship and distinguished service to the College.

The Leonard E. Reisman Medal

Nadiya Kostyuk, International Criminal Justice
Established in honor of the first president of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, this award is presented to an outstanding member of the senior class for distinguished scholarship and exceptional service to the College.
