We are pleased to announce that John Jay College of Criminal Justice was the recipient of one of seven CUNY Service Corps grants of $750,000.  The CUNY Service Corps is a CUNY wide initiative that will mobilize students, faculty and staff to work on projects that improve the short and long-term civic, economic and environmental sustainability of New York City and of its residents and communities. The competition was tight but John Jay was one of seven campuses awarded the grant and the only senior college in Manhattan to be selected.  Departments and offices across campus all helped to craft the proposal which ultimately secured the grant for the college.
 

Recruitment efforts across campus have already begun, as the program looks to enroll approximately 200 students to work on service projects in community partner locations across the city.  Students will go through an application and interview process and then the selected Service Corps members will become part of a cohort of students practicing service that is aligned with their civic and professional goals.  Typical assignments will last twenty-four weeks over two semesters, with participants working an average of 12 hours per week.  By providing support to a wide range of non-profit and civic endeavors, the CUNY Service Corps will both increase the availability of valuable services to New Yorkers and enable CUNY students to become more engaged in their communities throughout the city.
