Jonathan Gray, Associate Professor of English, recently interviewed Rep. John Lewis (D, Ga.) for Entertainment Weekly about the new graphic novel, March: Book One, which chronicles the Congressman’s experiences as a leading civil right activist. Written by Lewis and his staffer, Andrew Aydin, and illustrated by Nate Powell, March is part one of a trilogy from Top Shelf Productions.

Professor Gray’s research interests include post-World War II American literature and culture, African American literature, comic books and graphic novels, Black masculinity, and race in popular pulture. He has contributed scholarship to Rutgers University Press, Oxford University Press and McFarland, and written articles for Salon, Entertainment Weekly and the New Inquiry. His first book, Civil Rights in the White Literary Imagination (University Press of Mississippi) was published 2013.
