Professor Gloria Browne Marshall, Associate Professor of the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration, outlines a call to action in the aftermath of the Zimmerman verdict in an op-ed titled “In the Name of Trayvon: Turn Grieving Into Action.” Published in The Crime Report, the piece takes a historical perspective on the issues raised in the Martin case and offers ways to turn “anger into action”.

Professor Browne-Marshall is an attorney with a litigation background in civil rights, children's healthcare, education, and criminal justice issues, teaches constitutional law at John Jay College. A former Legal Advisor to the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in Geneva and New York of the African Bureau of Educational Sciences/OAU, she has presented interventions before the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on issues of racial justice. She is the author of two books, The Constitution: Major Cases and Conflicts and, more recently, Race, Law, and American Society: 1607 to Present. Her forthcoming book is titled Black Women and the Law.
