Professor and Chairperson Charles Nemeth in the Department of Security, Fire and Emergency Management was invited to deliver two lectures at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul Turkey this summer. One of his lectures featured John Jay’s Center for Private Security and Safety, the Newtown experience and John Jay’s reaction to the tragedy. He gave his second lecture at the BAU law school that assessed the use of force in protests currently experienced in Turkey as well as the distinction between private police and public police legal liability in the American experience.  The idea of “private security”  is a relatively new concept in Turkish law enforcement and both scholar and practitioners alike in Turkey are interested in the comparative roles of the private and public sector police systems.     

In addition, the events opened up a very productive dialog as to “faculty and student exchanges and laid out the possibility of an articulation agreement with BAU relative to John Jay’s new graduate program in Security Management,” said Nemeth.

Dr. Nemeth has spent the vast majority of his professional life in the study and practice of law and justice. A recognized expert on ethics and the legal system, appellate legal practice and private-sector justice, he also is a prolific writer, having published numerous texts and articles on law and justice throughout his impressive career. He has been an educator for more than 30 years. He holds memberships in the New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania bars. Dr. Nemeth was previously a Chair at the State University of New York at Brockport and California University of PA- one of Pennsylvania's 14 State Universities.  He is a much-sought-after legal consultant for security companies and a recognized scholar on issues involving law and morality.
