John Jay Alumna Featured in The New Yorker

An article appeared in The New Yorker entitled, “Community Guns” by Ian Frazier featuring John Jay alumna, Shaina Harrison. Harrison is the program coordinator for New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV) which is a statewide advocacy group working to build public awareness of the devastating impact of gun violence in New York and across the U.S. Harrison works with youth to help empower them. As she noted in the article, "The reason kids pick up guns is that they are powerless. I try to let them understand how they can have power. We draw maps of their neighborhoods and figure out who their representatives are."
