John Jay students met Justice Elena Kagan of the U.S. Supreme Court. Professor Gloria J. Browne-Marshall of the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration provided access to this invitation-only event where former Solicitors General Drew Days and Paul Clemente joined Justice Kagen and retired Judge Judith Kaye to reveal their thoughts about working as the nation's lawyer trying cases before the highest Court. A Solicitor General argues U.S. Supreme Court cases on behalf of the U.S. government. The event, held October 25th, took place in the immense main room of the Bar of the City of New York where life-sized portraits of legal luminaries such as Thurgood Marshall grace the walls.

Although space was limited as hundreds of lawyers and spectators filled the room, John Jay students had a great view. "I had the best seat in the house," said Rattan Singh, a Constitutional Law student, with a front row seat. The program was titled "Nominated From New York" and highlighted New York's contribution to legal cases argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. "I am so proud of my students," said Browne-Marshall. "They represented the college very well." At the end of the program, Prof. Browne-Marshall asked Drew Days if he had advice for her students. The former Solicitor General and civil rights legend said maintain your focus. "Never give up."
