President Jeremy Travis and Student Veterans Celebrate Veterans Day with Ring of NASDAQ Opening Bell

In commemoration of Veterans Day, President Jeremy Travis rang the opening bell at NASDAQ OMX Stock Market. At President Travis’ side were John Jay student veterans, John Jay board of trustee members, including Chair Jules Kroll, Peter Beshar, Chair of the Veterans Committee of the Board, and Jim McCann, and representatives from companies participating in John Jay’s Veterans Corporate Roundtable and veteran-friendly corporations listed on NASDAQ.

NASDAQ Senior Vice President Robert McCooey, Jr. welcomed John Jay College and recognized for-profit corporations such as 1-800 Flowers, Jos. A. Bank, Avis Budget Group, K2 Intelligence, Viacom’s Spike TV, Sears Holdings, MedAssets, JP Morgan Chase, Citi, Marsh & McLennan, Verizon, Drexel Hamilton, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, L’Oreal, LSI Industries and Paychex for their veterans hiring and philanthropic initiatives. Hire Heroes USA, Four Block Foundation, and Cost of Freedom were among the non-profit groups acknowledged for their direct services to veterans.

On the same day, John Jay College’s status as a “Best for Vets” institution was bolstered with the latest national rankings of 600 universities by Military Times EDGE magazine, which listed John Jay as #16 nationally, up from#37, tops among all New York City colleges and universities, and the only City University campus to make the list.
