Distinguished Professor of History Gerald Markowitz, a fierce and persistent advocate for justice as one of the nation’s leading public-health historians, was cited January 3 on the PBS program “Moyers & Company” regarding a recent landmark judgment against lead-paint manufacturers in California.
Markowitz and his research and writing partner, David Rosner, testified at length in the case, in which a judge ordered three major companies to pay $1.1 billion to have lead paint removed from millions of older homes in several California cities. The two scholars subsequently appeared on the program hosted by veteran TV newsman Bill Moyers, discussing the case and the decades-long struggle to protect children from the dangers of lead-based paint.
