As part of the continuing collaboration between John Jay's Center for Private Security and Safety and the Newtown Public School District in Connecticut, on December 18, 2013, key emergency management members from across the school district came together to continue to strengthen their preparedness for potential disasters. Specifically, the Center's CEO, Anthony Gentile provided oversight and guidance as the BOE provided comprehensive emergency preparedness training for the individual Emergency Response Team's (ERT's) of each school in the district.

"The training provided an opportunity for key school personnel with the knowledge to go back and train their fellow team members to respond to an unplanned event at their school,” said Gentile. In this training session, participants were provided with a daylong session on the basics of emergency management, the roles and responsibilities of their teams and a host of scenarios addressing evacuation, relocation, parent/child reunification and restoration of school operations.

The Center for Private Security and Safety is dedicated to professionalization of the private security industry and its safety constituencies in fire and emergency management. The center is designed to developing joint partnerships with both the public and private safety providers and to serving corporate, educational and industrial institutions in need of guidance through best practices and current industry standards at the local, state, national and international level.
