Professor Barry Latzer’s Op-ed on the Inconsistent Relationship Between Economics and Crime Published in the Los Angeles Times

Professor Barry Latzer of the Department of Criminal Justice recently published an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times titled, "Do Hard Times Spark More Crime?,." In the article, he explains that “U.S. history does not support economic explanations for the rise or fall of violent crime.”

Latzer has published widely on capital punishment and criminal procedure law. His casebook, Death Penalty Cases (Butterworth-Heinemann 2002), is now in its second edition. He also wrote two books on state constitutional criminal procedure: State Constitutional Criminal Law (Clark, Boardman, Callaghan 1995) and State Constitutions and Criminal Justice (Greenwood Press 1991). Latzer recently completed a history of violent crime in the United States.
