Professor Maria Hartwig’s Study on Lie Detection in the Financial Industry Featured in the Huffington Post

As study by Associate Professor Maria Hartwig of the Department of Psychology is cited in a Huffington Post article titled “Taming the Wolves of Wall Street.”
Professor Hartwig and her co-authors are working with the CFA Institute, a nonprofit organization of investment professionals, on developing a methodology to help those
in the finance industry improve their ability to detect deception.

Professor Hartwig has published extensively on the psychology of deception and its detection, and on interview and interrogation techniques, and has trained a variety of legal professionals, including prosecutors, judges, police detectives and military officers. In 2012, she received the Saleem Shah Award for Early Career Excellence in Psychology and Law, awarded by the American Psychology-Law Society and the American Academy of Forensic Psychology.
