Professor Preeti Chauhan in the Department of Psychology had her opinion piece, “Systemic Changes Are Necessary,” published in The New York Times “Room for Debate” on February 19, 2014.
In “Room for Debate,” The Times invites knowledgeable outside contributors to discuss news events and other timely issues. The issue currently under discussion is “Sentencing and the ‘Affluenza Factor?’ To what extent should life circumstances affect sentencing in criminal cases?”

Before joining the faculty at John Jay, Chauhan completed a predoctoral clinical internship at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center. Chauhan’s research interests focuses broadly on the intersection of neighborhood and individual level risk factors for antisocial behavior, psychopathology, and victimization, with an emphasis on understanding their contribution to racial disparities.
