Professor Deborah Koetzle in the Department of Public Management and Executive Officer of the Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice was quoted in the article, “America’s Recidivism Nightmare: A new government study shows a disturbing trend for the prison population” by Caitlin Dickson in The Daily Beast. Koetzle commented on the necessity for more substantive and meaningful rehabilitation prison programs in response to a recent study released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics on recidivism rates among former prisoners in the U.S.

Professor Koetzle is Associate Professor and Executive Officer of the Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice. Her research interests center on effective interventions for offenders, problem-solving courts, and the use of social media by police departments. She has served as a consultant to local, state and federal agencies on the topic of assessment, treatment and quality assurance within both institutional and community-based programs and is currently working with the National Association of Drug Court Professionals to develop empirically based standards for adult drug courts. Before joining John Jay, she was an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
