Professor Randall LaSalle Receives the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Educator of the Year Award‬‬‬‬

Professor Randall E. LaSalle of the Department of Public Management and coordinator of the Economics major’s specialization in forensic financial analysis is the recipient of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Educator of the Year Award. According to their website, the ACFE Certified Fraud Examiners recognizes outstanding individuals for their contributions to the war against fraud. The Educator of the Year Award is presented to an ACFE Educator who has made an exceptional contribution in anti-fraud education.

“It is quite an honor just to even be nominated, but to be selected among all those nominated is certainly a sign of distinction to which I will always be proud,” said LaSalle. “However, watching my students succeed and seeing them land that dream job is most satisfying.”

LaSalle attributes the success of John Jay’s program to its broad range of course options relating to justice, which he says is unparalleled to any other. John Jay brings together a wide variety of disciplines dedicated to solving problems related to fraud.

“John Jay is, without a doubt, the absolute best place to house anti-fraud educational programs. It is this ability to address the fraud problem from multiple perspectives that make our programs unique and, in my opinion, the best possible educational experience available – anywhere,” said LaSalle.

LaSalle believes that engaging students in activities outside the classroom is his most significant contribution toward creating dynamic, value-added educational experiences for John Jay students. Establishing relationships with anti-fraud professionals is paramount to the program’s success. John Jay students are fortunate to meet and learn from dedicated and knowledgeable anti-fraud experts.

LaSalle said another highlight of students’ activities outside the classroom is the KPMG Forensics Scholars Discover Workshop. Each semester KPMG Forensics sponsors a select group of the college’s best students to participate in two full-day workshops.

“These workshops provide students with a first-hand look at a career in forensic advisory services and an opportunity to make contacts and form relationships they can use later on in their careers.”

“I would not have received this award without the support, encouragement, and autonomy provided by President Travis. He has long understood the importance of forging relationships with professional communities,” said LaSalle.
