Dr. Jeffrey Butts, Director of John Jay’s Research & Evaluation Center, was cited in two recent new media reports on the May 23 shooting spree that left six people dead along with the alleged shooter.
Discussing a case in which warning signs of the suspect’s mental instability may have been missed, Butts called for the use of multidisciplinary teams of law enforcement personnel and mental health clinicians to assess whether a suspect poses a danger to himself or others.
