John Jay’s Prison-to-College Pipeline Program Featured in The New York Times

The New York Times recently published an article titled, “Prison Program Turns Inmates Into Intellectuals” by Ginia Bellafante, about the John Jay Prisoner Reentry Institute’s New York State Prison-to-College Pipeline (P2CP) program. Launched in 2011 at the Otisville Correctional Facility in Orange County, New York, the program takes a unique approach to educating inmates while also preparing them for reentry into society.  In addition to the college-level academic course work, as depicted in the article, the P2CP’s “learning exchange” enables John Jay students to join “inside” students, in monthly seminars that expose them to a diverse range of disciplines and ideas.

The program is a partnership between CUNY and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).
