Professor Jane Katz, “Master Swim Instructor,” Featured in Wall Street Journal

Professor Jane Katz of the Department of Health and Physical Education was featured in a Wall Street Journal article on June 11, in which the author, Ralph Gardner Jr., describes his learning to swim under Katz’s guidance.

In the feature, Gardner describes Katz as “one of the very best “ and “a great teacher” as she helped him begin to master the crawl stroke in the John Jay pool.

Katz, Emeritus Head Coach at John Jay, has been involved within the CUNY system for the past 50 years. She has been inducted into several Hall of Fames, including the Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame. She has also earned countless awards for her commitment and dedication to swimming. Katz was also honored with the very prestigious Liberty Medal for her outstanding work to the reentry program, a program for troubled youth. Most recently, she was named a recipient of the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.
