Graham Kates, Deputy Managing Editor of The Crime Report – an nonprofit online news partnership operated by John Jay’s Center on Media, Crime and Justice and Criminal Justice Journalists – was interviewed on National Public Radio’s “The Takeaway” and “Democracy Now” about his new investigative report on corporate polluters. Kates used public records to uncover more than 64,000 facilities listed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as being in violation of federal environmental laws. The eight-month project led to the creation of a unique environmental crime database that allows citizens to monitor corporate polluters. The report also reveals the government’s weakening efforts to prosecute violators. To listen to “The Takeaway” interview, click here. Listen to the “Democracy Now” interview here.
