Professor John DeCarlo Discusses Privately Paid Police in The Atlantic

Associate Professor John DeCarlo of the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration is quoted prominently in an article that appeared in The Atlantic on the growing phenomenon of privatized policing.

DeCarlo, a 34-year veteran of the Branford, CT, Police Department, including four years as its police chief, commented on the recent move by Facebook to pay the full salary and benefits of a Menlo Park, CA, police officer. He noted that the practice is already common, and will become even more so in the future, “with municipal pensions being the issue that they are, and governmental funding and taxes going the way they are.”
