Professor Maria Haberfeld’s Op-Ed on the Police-Involved Shooting in Ferguson, MO Published in CNN.com

Professor Maria Haberfeld, chair of the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration recently published an op-ed, titled “Why did Ferguson Police Need Six Bullet?,” in the CNN.com Opinion section. In the piece, Professor Haberfeld calls for a national standard in training police on the use of deadly force that goes beyond the correct handling of weapons and is developed by “experts in the field of police studies, sociology, psychology and physiology.”

Haberfeld is the author of several books including Critical Issues in Police Training, Contours of Police Integrity and Terrorism Within Comparative International Context. She served in the Israel Defense Forces in a counter-terrorist unit as a sergeant. In addition, she served in the Israel National Police and worked as a special consultant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
