U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Robert McDonald Visit, Battle Buddy Center Dedication and Salute to Veterans Reception Honor Our Veterans

On November 13, U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Robert McDonald visited John Jay and met with student veterans to learn about their experiences and transition to civilian life. After the visit, the New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) dedicated the Veterans Resource Center at John Jay College as a NYSID Battle Buddy Center in collaboration with the City University of New York (CUNY) and Fedcap Rehabilitation Services. The day of celebration culminated with a Salute to Our Veterans reception that included alumni and faculty veterans.

Battle Buddy Centers are safe havens for veterans to socialize with their fellow veterans receive services. The Centers offer activities to encourage camaraderie and foster veterans to give and receive mutual support.

John Jay student veterans and administrators were joined by guests that included Ron Romano, President and CEO of NYSID; Joseph Giannetto, Chief Operating Officer of Fedcap Rehabilitation Services and Lisa Beatha, CUNY University Director of Veterans Affairs.

The John Jay College Office of Veterans Affairs collaborates with the CUNY Office of Veterans Affairs, New York City Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs and the State of New York's Department of Veterans Affairs, to assist veterans and their families in making a seamless transition from military service to the John Jay College campus community. Significant resources throughout the John Jay campus are in place to aid in that transition, including this Battle Buddy Center.
