Political Science Professor Brian Arbour Writes on Congressional Elections in the Washington Post

Brian Arbour, Associate Professor of Political Science, authored an entry on the The Monkey Cage blog in the Washington Post on December 9 in which he argued that the lack of what political scientists call the “personal vote” — the portion of a candidate’s support that derives from his or her personal qualities and qualifications – contributed to the poor showing of Democrats in 2014 Congressional elections in red and purple states. He asserts that this is reflective of Congressional elections increasingly becoming a referendum on national politics.
