Valerie Allen is a full Professor in the English Department. She received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin, and taught at University College Dublin, University of Stirling, Scotland, and University of South Florida before joining John Jay in 1999. Her specializations are medieval culture and literature, and continental philosophy. Her publications include an edited anthology of essays on Geoffrey Chaucer (1997); On Farting: Language and Laughter in the Middle Ages (Palgrave, 2007); L’Art d’enseigner de Martin Heidegger (Klinksieck, 2007); a long chapter on the history of Middle English literature in English Literature in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2008); and she is currently editing an anthology of essays called Roadworks: Medieval England, Medieval Roads (Manchester University Press).
