RE: Celebrating the Class of 2020
As we near the end of this unprecedented spring semester, we are also getting ready to virtually celebrate our graduating seniors. This Class of 2020 is like no other in our history. You’ve had to overcome unimaginable hurdles due to the Covid-19 crisis, but still you’ve been able to achieve so much and reach important milestones in your personal and professional lives.
You’ve shown extraordinary courage, perseverance, and resilience in staying the course and finding ways to successfully balance your academic work, professional work, and family responsibilities at home. Even in our current world, we are still celebrating your wonderful achievements. Here are the virtual occasions we’ve put together to celebrate your tremendous accomplishments:
- Salute to our Graduates Brunch: Friday, May 8, from 1:40 pm via Zoom
We invite all seniors to register for the event (the link is included in your newsletter) and participate in the fun-filled activities planned for this virtual meet-up.
The site will go live on Monday, May 18, and present an online publication of all the student award-winners, including academic and service award recipients.
This virtual ceremony to celebrate our graduate students will be hosted via the Marching Order platform that will go live on May 21. I’m proud to announce that it will feature special remarks for our graduate students by the New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
This virtual celebration will also be hosted on the Marching Order platform and will include congratulatory videos. Each graduating senior will be featured with a name card and photo indicating their degree.
I encourage you, our graduating seniors, to upload your photos, and messages of gratitude to your family, friends, faculty, and staff who have lifted you up and helped you succeed.
To our faculty and staff, every year, we look forward to cheering our students as they walk up on stage and officially earn their degree. Obviously we won’t be able to do that this year, but you can still show your love and support for our outstanding graduates by sharing a personal note of congratulations to the Class of 2020 that could be featured in social media. Interim Vice President Ellen Hartigan will send an email with more information in the coming week.
Class of 2020, we are so proud of your unique accomplishments. We look forward to the future when we can come together in person to celebrate you as successful graduates, but right now, we look forward to showing you our support virtually, and to welcoming you back to campus as part of our 65,000-strong alumni family.
