I am currently in Law school and with my graduate degree in public policy I plan to use my skills and level of knowledge I received from John Jay and one day work for the innocence projects then eventually transition into a juvenile court Judge.

Martyna Wegrzynowska
B.A. in Forensic Psychology, Minor and Advanced Certificate in Dispute Resolution
My future plan is to contribute in psychology field, as a mental health counselor. I am currently enrolled in the masters program also at JJAY. I love this experience and I want to become a licensed professional to help delinquent youth. I believe young individuals have so much chance to improve their lives and find a better way to live- it is just a matter of a support, which they often lack. I also want to explore how to improve quality of living, not only for people with mental disorders, but also for most of us who struggle with daily stress, demands of living in NYC, and time. I strongly believe that we can start promoting mental health, not only for people who already suffer from the disorders, but also for everyone as a healthier approach to life, so that we can prevent disorders from development and eliminate stigma from the society.

I hope to pursue a PhD in Social Psychology, with a concentration in cognition and neuroscience, heavily focusing on interdisciplinary studies, merging cross-cultural research and public policy to create necessary discourse for the betterment of marginalized communities. My long-term goal is to seek a professorship at a research university and implement my cultural competence as a researcher and artist at a non-profit organization where I can support culturally diverse communities worldwide as an educated advocate for social justice.

Albert Elias Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Professor Albert Elias by his family and the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration. An expert in correctional studies, Professor Elias pioneered guided group interaction as an intervention to rehabilitate juvenile delinquents. The award is presented to a graduating Correction Officer with the highest cumulative GPA.

After succeeding the College's first President, Dr. Riddle introduced courses in languages and the humanities to the curriculum.

This award was established by Associate Registrar Emerita Jennie Gisses in memory of her husband. It is given to the graduating senior who either is a member of the New York City Fire Department or has the highest GPA in the fire science major. The faculty of the Department of Public Management selects the award winner.

In the future, I plan on attending graduate school to major in education. Career-wise, I plan to be an educator in some capacity. I also plan on publishing a poetry book. For my long-term career goal, I plan on establishing a recreation/community center for Muslim girls, giving them a safe space to cultivate lifelong relationships and skills while engaging in activities such as various sports.
